Rep. Doris Matsui issued a letter Friday demanding that pharmaceutical company Mylan lower the price of the EpiPen, a device that helps millions of people stem severe allergy attacks. Over the past month, public outrage has grown over the rising cost of the injector device, which dispenses a life-saving drug called epinephrine. That cost has jumped by about 400 percent in the last decade; it now costs about $600 out of pocket for a set of two. Critics say Mylan has been using its market dominance to slowly increase the price.

Sacramento International Airport has won $16 million to help refurbish its east taxiway, Sacramento Rep. Doris Matsui said Thursday. The money, from the Federal Aviation Administration, boosts the airport's plans for a $35 million airport flight field upgrade, and helps reduce the amount the airport needs to draw from airline and flier fees for the project. "This grant will help us meet important capital improvement objectives in modernizing and rehabilitating our airfield for future growth," said Sacramento County Airport System Director John Wheat in a statement.

Rep. Doris Matsui, reacting to an investigation by The Sacramento Bee, has formally requested that the federal Government Accountability Office evaluate how to improve the resettlement process for Afghan refugees arriving in the United States on Special Immigrant Visas. The visas are awarded to people who served the U.S. during the war in Afghanistan, along with their immediate family members. California has received more of these newcomers than any other state, and Sacramento - with 2,000 recent arrivals and more on the way - has more than any other county in California.

Rep. Doris Matsui and some of her fellow Democrats drowned out the acting speaker Tuesday afternoon during a brief, routine House meeting as they demanded a vote on gun legislation. The House has recessed until July 5, but meets for short "pro forma" sessions every few days in an effort to block the president from making recess appointments. Typically no legislative business or debate occurs during such sessions, and except for a member chosen as acting speaker, they are rarely attended by members of Congress. Rep.

Watching the Democrats' sit-in on the House floor last week filled Mandy Pifer with pride andmdash; and the conviction that Congress will act on tougher gun violence laws. Pifer, whose boyfriend, Shannon Johnson, was killed in the San Bernardino shooting Dec. 2, had the chance to offer her encouragement in person Wednesday at a roundtable discussion on advancing gun control hosted by Southern California House members at Los Angeles City Hall. "Last weekend, I was watching the sit-in in the House.

A handful of House Democrats renewed their floor protest of congressional inaction on gun control legislation Tuesday, shouting for recognition through a brief evening session and pledging afterward to continue their efforts to force votes on a "no fly, no buy" gun bill. But they stopped short of pledging a continued occupation of the House floor such as they did for more than 26 hours starting last Wednesday, forcing Republican leaders to start a planned holiday recess two days early. "We're going to keep the pressure up," said Rep.

By: John Eggerton A bipartisan bill, the Federal Spectrum Incentive Act, has been reintroduced in an effort to get government spectrum holders to give it up for the cause, the cause being more spectrum for wireless broadband, Wi-Fi and more. The bill has been introduced multiple times, so far without success. The bill also creates an incentive auction for that freed-up spectrum similar to the one that just wrapped up last month for reclaimed broadcast spectrum. The late

By TOMIO GERON Matt Ocko is a venture capitalist placing big bets on the latest in artificial intelligence and big data. But he also expects that leaps forward in related automation technology will put many people out of work, and he's one of several Silicon Valley investors who think it's unfair to expect society to adapt without offering help to people who are at risk from rapid change.
