That was also the last time a new judgeship was created in the U.S. District Court that oversees the Central Valley. Today the Eastern District covers 34 counties, running from the Los Angeles-Kern County line on the south to the Oregon border on the north. Key cities are Fresno, Sacramento, Modesto, Bakersfield and Redding.

A new air traffic control (ATC) tower is soon to watch over the airfield at the Sacramento International Airport (SMF) after the Federal Air Administration (FAA) approved its funding, according to Sacramento County officials.

SMF’s current tower reaches 130 feet into the sky and was built in 1967, making it one of the oldest ATC towers in the United States, according to the county.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Last week, on the last day of Older Americans Month, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA) and Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), co-chairs of the House Democratic Caucus Task Force on Aging & Families, introduced the Older Americans Bill of Rights, a resolution which identifies and establishes fundamental rights that every older American and their family deserve.

Officials are still working to connect Sacramento and West Sacramento through the Downtown Riverfront Streetcar Project. Construction was approved back in August 2022 through a vote by the Sacramento Regional Transit Board of Directors. West Sacramento’s Supervising Transportation Planner, Jason McCoy, has been a part of the project for nine years and says that it’s grown more ambitious over time.

WASHINGTON D.C. Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA) and Reps. Don Bacon (R-NE), Mary Gay Scanlon (D-PA), and Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ) introduced H.R. 3788,Hammers’ Law, last week. The legislation would amend the Death on the High Seas Act (DOHSA) to hold cruise ship operators legally and financially accountable for the wrongful deaths of passengers.
