Scientists have been warning us about climate change for decades, and today we are seeing the real, tangible effects on our communities. In California, and across the country, we are experiencing the impacts of extreme weather - wildfires, droughts and flooding - which disrupt our local economies and harm the environment.

Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA) issued the following statement on the announcement from Secretary of Defense Ash Carter that he is ordering the Department of Defense to suspend efforts to collect the repayment of enlistment bonuses paid to California National Guard soldiers:

"Our dedicated service members should not bear the burden of mistakes that are of no fault of their own. I'm pleased that Secretary Carter has ordered the Pentagon to suspend any efforts to collect repayments from California's National Guard.
